This small collection offers religious wall pieces for a church, parish office or home: a heavy solid bronze and copper crucifix about 23 by 13 inches, wood icon reliefs finished with gesso, and a simple crucifix about 18 inches long. In the Sacred Liturgy
Sacred images on the walls of a home or chapel keep the faith before our eyes in daily life. Wall plaques and reliefs may depict the Crucifixion, the Sacred Heart, Our Lady, the angels or a beloved saint, worked in carved wood, metal, enamel, porcelain or tooled leather.
This collection also includes sick call sets, a traditional Catholic household item. A sick call set is usually a wall crucifix whose front slides off to reveal a hollow compartment holding what is needed when a priest visits a sick or dying person at home: two candles, a small bottle of holy water and cloths. The crucifix stands between the lighted candles on a table prepared for the priest's arrival, so that he can hear the sick person's confession, anoint them and give Holy Communion with dignity.
Hung in the home, a sick call set is also a daily reminder of Christ's care for the suffering and of the comfort of the sacraments at the end of life.
