About New Wood & Bronze Baptismals

Not every baptistery calls for marble. This collection presents custom baptismal fonts in wood and bronze: an octagonal Gothic font in a white finish with quatrefoil details, a solid oak font with a concealed door, ornate fonts with marble tops and inserts, and solid bronze baptismals.

Each font is made to order, in our design or yours, to suit the style of your church.

How to order

All fonts in this collection are quoted individually. Tell us the size you need, how the basin will be filled and drained, and the finish of your other furnishings. We work with pastors, architects and diocesan commissions on design. Installation may be available in some areas; ask when you request a quote. Call or request a quote. Freight is billed separately. New Wood & Bronze Baptismals

In the Sacred Liturgy

Baptism is the first of the sacraments and the gateway to all the others. Through the waters of Baptism a person is freed from sin, reborn as a child of God and made a member of the Church. The font, the basin that holds this water, therefore has a place of honor in every church.

In traditional church design the font stands in a baptistery near the entrance, showing that Baptism is the doorway into the Church. It is usually fitted with a cover, which may be richly carved or crowned with a cross or an image of the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan. The water is solemnly blessed, above all at the Easter Vigil.

A wooden font usually holds a basin of metal or stone within a carved pedestal or casing, while bronze fonts are cast for strength and permanence. Many fonts are octagonal: the number eight recalls the eighth day, the day of the Resurrection, when the new creation began.
