About this collection
About Candelabra
Candelabra add light and festivity at Benediction, Forty Hours and solemn feasts. This collection offers brass candelabra, most polished and lacquered, with three, five or seven lights. Designs include a Marian Ave Maria seven-light candelabrum, a Sacred Heart candelabrum, an ascending five-light model often used in pairs, and a low double-footed altar candelabrum.
There are also candelabra inserts that turn an existing 1 1/2-inch candlestick into a seven-light candelabrum, and cross- and heart-shaped votive stands with red glass globes.
What to check
Most candelabra take 7/8-inch candles, so check the socket size, and confirm an insert fits your candlesticks before ordering. Listed prices currently run from about $450 to $970. Call or request a quote. Freight is billed separately. See also altar candlesticks and sanctuary lamps.
Candelabra
In the Sacred Liturgy
A candelabrum is a candle holder with several branches, each holding a candle. Its warm light is a sign of prayer rising to God and of Christ, the Light of the world. Placed beside the altar on great feasts, before a statue of Our Lady, or at a side altar or shrine, candelabra add solemnity and joy.
Many candelabra hold seven lights, recalling the seven-branched lampstand that God commanded for the tabernacle in the desert, as described in the Book of Exodus. Others hold three or five candles, or are designed around a symbol such as a cross or a heart. Votive lights, small candles in glass, are lit by the faithful as they offer a prayer, and left to burn on after they have gone.
Candelabra are traditionally made of brass or bronze, often polished or gilded, and are designed to complement the altar candlesticks and the other furnishings of the church.
