About this collection
About New Marble Baptismals
The baptismal font is where new Christians are welcomed into the Church, and marble gives it lasting dignity. This collection presents new marble fonts in named designs, including The Seraphim with angels, The Gloria with red Rojo Alicante accents, The Regina Coeli, The Evangelists, The Hail Mary, The Canon and The Credo in white Carrara marble. Listed sizes are mostly around 36 to 40 inches.
Many fonts can be custom made, and some designs combine marble with bronze or mosaic.
How pricing works
Marble fonts are quoted individually: where a listing shows a price, it is often a placeholder, so please ask before you order. One font currently carries a listed price of about $6,500; the rest are quoted on request. Tell us the size of your baptistery and how the font will be plumbed or filled. Call or request a quote. Freight is billed separately. See also wood and bronze baptismal fonts and custom church projects.
New Marble Baptismals
In the Sacred Liturgy
The baptismal font holds the water of Baptism, the first of the sacraments. Through Baptism we are washed clean of original sin and all sin, born again as children of God, and made members of the Church. For this reason the font is one of the most important furnishings in any church.
Traditionally the font stood in a baptistery near the church entrance, a reminder that Baptism is the door into the life of faith. Today it may also be placed near the sanctuary, so that the whole community can see and take part. A font may be made for pouring water over the head or for immersion. It is usually covered with a lid when not in use, and the baptismal water is solemnly blessed, above all at the Easter Vigil.
Marble has long been a favored material for fonts, valued for its permanence and beauty. Many are octagonal, recalling the eighth day: the day of Christ's Resurrection and of the new creation.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
