Censer Stands
Censer stands hold the censer safely between incensations, keeping the burning coals upright and ready at hand.

About this collection
About Censer Stands
A censer stand keeps the thurible upright and close at hand in the sanctuary between incensations. This collection offers brass censer stands roughly 53 to 60 inches tall, most on a triangular base, with arms or hooks for the censer and a small dish for the incense boat.
Designs include Gothic, French Gothic, ornate Gothic, Baroque and simple styles, and many stands match our altar candlestick and processional cross series.
What to check
Make sure the hook suits your censer's chain and ring, and that the stand's height lets the censer hang clear of the floor. A triangular base gives stability on a sanctuary step. Listed prices currently run from about $575 to $1,950. Call or request a quote. Freight is billed separately. See also censers and censer boats.
Censer Stands
In the Sacred Liturgy
During a solemn liturgy the censer, also called a thurible, holds burning charcoal for a long time but is used only at certain moments. A censer stand gives it a safe and dignified resting place in between. It keeps the censer upright, keeps the hot coals and chains away from the floor and furnishings, and lets the thurifer, the server responsible for the censer, set it down and take it up again quickly.
A censer stand is usually a tall stand with a hook or arm at the top from which the censer hangs by its chains. It stands in the sacristy, or in a discreet place in the sanctuary near the credence table, so that the censer is always close at hand when it is needed for the Gospel, the Offertory or Benediction.
Censer stands are commonly made of brass or bronze, in Gothic, Baroque and simpler styles, and are often chosen to match the censer and boat they will serve.
