About this collection

About New Candlesticks

Every newly made candlestick we list is gathered on this page. The selection runs from small chapel pairs and 9 1/2-inch candlesticks in brass or gold finish to Gothic, angel and marble-accented altar candlesticks about 40 inches tall, wall-mounted consecration candlesticks, acolyte candlesticks, paschal candlesticks up to 60 inches, and funeral candlesticks.

Most are polished and lacquered brass, and many belong to a series with a matching crucifix and sanctuary pieces.

What to check

Note whether a listing is priced per candlestick or per pair, check the socket size against your candles, and compare heights with your altar crucifix. Listed prices currently run from about $360 to $4,800. Call or request a quote. Freight is billed separately. See also altar candlesticks and paschal candlesticks.

New Candlesticks

In the Sacred Liturgy

Candles have burned in Christian worship since the earliest centuries. Their light is a sign of Christ, the Light of the world, of the faith of those who pray, and of the honor due to God. Lighted candles are used at every Mass, and they stand before the tabernacle, beside statues and shrines, and at every great celebration of the Church's year.

Church candlesticks come in many forms. Altar candlesticks stand on or beside the altar, usually in pairs or sets of six, often matching the altar crucifix. Paschal candlesticks are tall and sturdy, made to hold the great Easter candle. Smaller chapel candlesticks suit side altars, oratories and shrines, while tall floor candlesticks can frame the altar or stand beside the coffin at a funeral.

Candlesticks are traditionally made of brass or bronze, polished or gilded, in Gothic, Roman, Baroque and simpler styles. Each holds its candle on a socket or on a pricket, a metal spike, and many include a drip pan to catch the wax.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

Psalm 27:1
